Cruise Destinations

In 2016 over 1.2 million Australians took to the high seas, departing from both domestic ports and overseas (CLIA 2017). Our favourite destination continues to be the South Pacific primarily due to its beautiful scenery and close proximity. In fact, last year three out of four Australian passengers cruised to New Zealand, the South Pacific or Australian destinations.

However, long haul and overseas destinations are becoming more and more popular. In particular, the amount of travellers heading to Alaska rose by 25% last year and this follows a trend of more Australians wishing to embark on ‘expedition’ cruises. Another similar trend is the rise of the ‘river cruise’. River cruising takes a much more leisurely approach to the overall experience and passengers can look forward to smaller ships that dock right in the centre of town.

At Cover My Trip we have included brief guides to a few of our favourite destinations, so you can better plan your next getaway. Understanding where exactly you’re headed can help you purchase the travel insurance policy that best suits your trip.
